World’s Master Carver
Ernest “Mooney” Warther is considered to be the World’s Master Carver. He hand carved models of steam locomotives in ebony, ivory and walnut. Over a period of time, Mooney gave away 17 of his early carvings to friends and family with 12 of them eventually returned.
Now, the Warther Museum is excited to announce that three of the remaining carvings will be displayed, for one year only, as part of the 100th anniversary of Mooney’s carvings. Beginning Monday, May 6th, these models of the Santa Fe, the General and the Empire State Express 999 will be a part of the museum exhibit.
“The Warther family has always wanted to retrieve as many of my Grandfather’s carvings as possible,” stated Mark Warther, President of the museum. “This year, we have more of Mooney’s works of art than ever before. We hope many will take advantage of this rare opportunity.”
